How we pick

Our buying guides are research-based. For every guide we collect the models that independent experts recommend right now and score every candidate on the same factors:

  • Expert recommendations — how many reputable, independent publications list the product in a current best-of guide.
  • Buyer ratings — verified owner ratings, weighted by how many there are, whenever reliable rating data is available.
  • Value — what you get for the price, compared with the rest of the group.
  • Features — breadth of the feature set, from the manufacturer's own specifications.
  • Availability — how many reputable retailers carry it.

When a factor has no reliable data for a category, we leave it out rather than guess, and the guide's score breakdown shows exactly which factors were used.

Specs come from the manufacturer's official product pages, which we name on every pick. A fact-checking pass verifies the guide against that data, and a human editor approves every guide before it goes live. We revisit guides as products and prices change.

The full scoring method, with a worked example and every publication we cite, is on How we score.

We do not claim hands-on testing. When a guide is based on our own testing, it will say so explicitly.

We never print prices in our copy, because they change daily — use the buttons on each pick to see the current price.
