The best smart Christmas lights in 2026 do far more than glow in one color. They run animated scenes, react to music, take voice commands and plug into the smart home setup you already have. We narrowed the field to five picks that cover the main ways people decorate: a window or wall, a roofline, a Hue-powered home and a tree.
This guide is based on manufacturer specs and independent expert recommendations. It is not based on hands-on testing. Use the table to shortlist, then read the sections below for the trade-offs.

The Govee Curtain Lights Pro H70B6 is the most complete option in this group. It turns a window or wall into a detailed animated display and suits anyone who wants a showpiece rather than a basic string. It has 960 ultra-high-density RGBIC LEDs and is rated IP67 for indoor and outdoor use.

The standout is the 30-layer DIY canvas, which accepts image and GIF uploads. Alongside it you get 250+ preset scenes, 10 music sync modes and AI Lighting Bot 2.0 for generative effects. The curtain measures 5.21 × 5.77 ft, and you can splice up to 3 units for a larger canvas. Smart home support is broad, with Matter, Alexa and Google Home. Two independent reviews score it well: Trusted Reviews gives it 4.5 out of 5 and MacSources 4.65 out of 5.
The trade-offs are real. It sits in the premium price tier. The refresh rate is 30fps on a single unit, 25fps with 2 units and 20fps with 3, so splicing costs you some smoothness. And the curtain format covers a window or wall, so it is not the right tool for wrapping a tree.

Matter over Wi-Fi support covers Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. The LEDs are individually addressable with 16 million+ colors, and tunable whites run from 2700K-6500K, so you can go warm and traditional as easily as multicolor. A built-in microphone drives music-reactive effects. The set is 24m (2 × 12m strings) with 300 LEDs. The app runs on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. Reviewers scored it 4.5 out of 5 at Tom's Guide and 4 out of 5 at Trusted Reviews, T3 and What Gadget.
The main compromise is weatherproofing. The string lights are rated IP44, and only the controller is IP67. That is lower weather resistance than some rivals here, so think about how exposed your installation will be.

Keep reading about Govee Christmas String Lights 2
Features include 16 million RGBWIC colors with individual LED control, 130+ preset animated scenes with shape mapping, and music sync with 10+ modes via a built-in microphone. AI Lighting Bot builds custom effects from voice, text or image prompts. The lights are IP65 waterproof with an operating range of -20°C to 40°C, and they work with Alexa, Google Home and Matter. Reviewers scored it 7 out of 10 at How-To Geek and 8 out of 10 at Cubed3.
Power is plug-in 5V DC, which ties placement to outlets. It also has fewer scenes than the top-ranked Govee curtain (130+ versus 250+). Both are worth weighing: plug-in power ties placement to outlets, which matters when covering a large outdoor area.

Our score. Fewer than two published expert reviews score this model yet, so the number is our ranking formula (expert recommendations, features, value, retailers), relative to the other picks in this guide. It switches to the expert average once two reviews are published.
The Govee Christmas Tree Lights H6800 are a budget-tier set built for people who dislike wrapping a tree by hand. The 480 RGBIC LEDs come as 24 pre-arranged strings, each 6.56 ft long with 20 LEDs, so they go on quickly.

They are designed for 6.5-8 ft trees and offer individual LED control with 16 million colors. You get 60+ dynamic scene modes and 8 music sync modes. Matter, Alexa, Google Assistant and HomeKit are supported with no hub required, and the power cord is 11.5 ft. Smart Home Explorer rates it 8.3 out of 10.
The limits are clear. It only suits trees in that size range, the adapter is IP44 rated (the strings are IP65), and it has fewer scene modes than other Govee options. For a tree-only setup, that is a reasonable swap for speed.

How to choose the best smart Christmas lights
Start with what you are decorating
The format matters more than any single spec. A curtain such as the H70B6 fits a window or wall. A string set suits rooflines, railings and shrubs. A pre-strung tree kit saves time on a tree of the right size. Check length or LED count against your space before comparing features.
Match your smart home platform
Matter is a cross-platform standard that lets devices work with several ecosystems. Nanoleaf, Govee and Hue all list it, but Hue needs its Bridge for Matter. If you use Apple Home, check the compatibility line for each product above.
Check the weather rating
IP ratings describe resistance to dust and water. For lights that stay outside, look at the string rating and not just the controller. The Nanoleaf string is IP44 with an IP67 controller. The Hue set is IP54. The Govee string is IP65 and the curtain is IP67.
Think about effects and control
If you want music sync, preset scenes and AI-assisted effects, the Govee curtain and string sets list all three, the Govee tree set offers scenes and music sync, and the Nanoleaf set also has music sync via a built-in microphone. If you prefer tunable whites for a classic look, the Nanoleaf and Hue sets list wide white ranges.
How we picked
We compared the five picks using manufacturer specs, the pros and cons that independent expert reviews agree on, the number of expert buying guides recommending each product and relative price tier. We did not hands-on test any of them. Prices are not listed because they change, so use the check-price buttons for current offers.
Bottom line
For most people who want a standout display, the Govee Curtain Lights Pro H70B6 is the most complete choice. If you want flexible string lights that work across smart home platforms, the Nanoleaf set is the all-rounder. The Govee Christmas String Lights 2 cover big areas on a budget, the Philips Hue Festavia suits existing Hue homes, and the Govee H6800 makes tree setup simple.
